About
Discover the primitive Living in the Atlas
Imouzzer is seventy-two miles from the bright lights
of Agadir, high in the hills (alt 3,600 ft.) where the High Atlas meets the
sea. The drive from Agadir is, at first, barren and rocky, but soon gives way
to a winding mountain road that twists through the most dramatic scenery of
palm trees, limestone gorges, bubbling fresh water ravines, and verdant
tree-clad hills. Imouzzer has a small local market every Thursday and is noted
for its outstanding honey made from an exotic range of mountain flowers, which is
served locally either in nature or with crushed nuts and argan oil. A track
from the village leads through olive groves to the foot of the spectacular
waterfalls (available during rainy periods), though these are not noted for
their volume of water but rather their rock formations, pools rich in minerals,
and air of mystery. The trip to Imouzzer leads you to discover the first North
Africa inhabitants “The Berbers “or “The Amazigh” real life in their Berber
villages meet the curious, shy kids’ faces. It’s really an unforgettable
experience.
