Explore Tiznit 1/2 Day

Excursion journey: (180 km)

Tiznit, the capital of the province, is a city of 60,000 inhabitants built around 1883 by Moulay Hassan I, 17th sultan of the Alawite dynasty.

Located 80 km south of Agadir, bordered on the west by the sea 12km away, and on the east by the mountains of the Anti-Atlas. It is also a city of passage towards southern Morocco and Mauritania.

Tiznit, the provincial capital nestled in the land, is a haven of peace on the edge of the burning desert. Surrounded by its ancient walls, the city is especially famous for its crafts, the silversmiths who work with silver and to a lesser extent gold populate the old district and offer remarkable objects and jewelry. The filigree silver and amethyst jewelry are particularly noteworthy. The presence of these many silversmiths is explained by the geographical location of the city located on the edge of the desert, which was one of the stages of the ancient caravans that once ensured international trade in this part of the continent. Caravanners exchanged their products for precious metal objects.

Tiznit has 29 towers and 8 doors. First, you will stroll through the old medina with its open-air market, discover superb architectural designs with unique red houses and blue iron doors. Then, the city is famous for the silversmiths who live in the old quarter work with silver and to a lesser extent gold and offer remarkable objects and jewelry.
